Published by the American Psychological Society in 2016, this article critically examines existing literature and attempts to sum up the role of cannabis use throughout history. They describe how CBD interacts with different molecules in the body to produce various effects, and offer examples of therapeutic relief from:
- Psychosis including schizophrenia
- Neuroprotection and neurodegenerative diseases
- Ischemia (Reduced blood flow)
- Pain, inflammation, autoimmunity and retinal diseases
- Emesis (vomiting)
- Bone formation and fracture healing
The authors conclude that the complex role of cannabis use throughout history is important to understanding the impact of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) on the human body. And they support the position that more research is needed on its therapeutic use to increase the current knowledge base.
